After 6 months of hard work my dissertation has been handed in, All that is left to do now is re work my web site which need major updating so I can showcase all my projects.

Well after a traumatic few days I have sadly reached the end of my sound module :(
though it did have a happy ending and I performed my project without a hitch. I thought it was doomed after I managed to break 4 of my sensors last night in preperation and had to run out and buy a soldering iron >.<
I really felt I had achieved something today, it just a shame it is over as there is so much more I would love to do with this project that I will probably never get the chance to acheive. All that is left to do is hand in my documentation tomorrow before I head off to Telford to film my 4D cosplay project,.

I am currently  in the project lab slowly composing myself after the disaster, i checked my patch a few weeks ago and it work fine I changed some functionality and wanted to hear what my new samples sounded like and ow it all iunteracted. I came into the lab and the computer hooked up to the i cube seems to have blown a power supply or fuse, well it wasn’t working. i tried the other mac to see if I could get the i cube working but I couldn’t seem to work it out. I emailed Dan and tried to contact Benji to see if it can be resolved in the next day or so (Dead line is Thursday)…..
I have slowly thinking things through, if I can’t get an icube working before Thursday mabe I can create the same effect virtually then I have two ways. If i can try and figure out someway of using the mouse pointer as a light source then I could recreate it all virtually.

For the last week I have been finishing off the coding which is all done now. It has all been tidied into sub patches and I have the random drunk function working a treat I am taking it to the lab for more testing tomorrow to see how I can improve the functionality now the basics are working. I have also been creating my samples using live and have a few more to create. I have tried to make it so that the samples are representative of the orchestral groups to provide a varied composition. I also have to sort out the casing for my project which shouldnt be too hard fingers crossed.

I am currently going through loads of GPS mapping programs on the internet to find the one that will best suit my project. I have been looking at GPS 2 GE which works with Google Earth which was very successful, but I still want to experiment further with create a scape and other software that allows me to create the map myself.

I have decided now to have 16 sensors each with 3 sound samples attached to them and have them in a game of life arrangement where each cell is affected by the cells that came before it and surround it. Across the surface from top left to bottom right they will have different timbres of samples from strings to brass and more percussive samples at the bottom right. I have made some good progress on the patch so far, I am working on one versitile patch which can then be cloned for all the other sensors. I am currently working out the rules for the relationships between sensors, keeping it simple to begin with then after getting that version working I can keep adding to the functionality.

I seem to have hit a barrier with my project I just don’t know where to begin writting my new patch I have collected some of my samples together and arranged the technology.
I know what I want to achieve I just can’t seem to figure out how to organise the data from the LDRs. I will take it to Dan to show what i have got and see if he can help me talk through this barrier I have created for myself.

Japan gets way more than its fair share or weird gadgets and gizmos and if they aren’t designed to keep your warm the seem to be centered on smell. Sony Ericsson is introducing a new phone in Japan only called the S0703i that has a scent slot. The phone will have 11 avaliable scents though they havent said what they will be yet.

After my discusion with Dan here is the next progression of my sound piece:
I am going to re arrange my sensors onto the square platform, then program max msp so that when certain patterns are made certain samples are triggered and the computer can respond with samples that are complimentry to it.
For Next Thursday I need to do the following:

  1. Re arrange the sensors
  2. Program the Max patch
  3. Create my sample

Something I really have to steer clear of is assigning notes to the sensors as that has the potential to ruin the whole project. This has to sound amazing as well as look amazing.
